What is Prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics is one of the nine recognized dental specialties by the American Dental Association.  Prosthodontics is, simply put, the restoration of smiles from complex issues.  It provides more comprehensive treatment than general dentistry by focusing on the design, manufacturing, fitting, and placement of replacement teeth for proper oral function. Prosthodontists handle the most advanced and complex cases, such as dental implants, reconstructive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, TMJ disorders, and other functional issues.

For more information on prosthodontics check out The American College of Prosthodontics website.

Why See a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontists receive an additional three years of specialized training after dental school.  Less than three percent of dentists in the United States are prosthodontists, and Dr. Redding is the only one in the South Georgia region.  If someone has dental issues such as discomfort or function, Dr. Redding and his team may be able to help.  Due to specialized training, prosthodontists are exceptional in comprehensive oral diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment.

Dental Implants

Dental implants allow for the replacement of missing or broken teeth by serving as a substitute for the root of the tooth.  Having the proper foundation is essential to replacing teeth.

TMD

If someone is suffering from a temporomandibular disorder, also known as TMJ, which can affect the jaw joint and the muscles used to chew, the team at Redding Dental can perform an evaluation and create a solution based on the specific case.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Everyone wants a confident smile.  If somebody wants to improve their smile and enhance it, Redding Dental works with patients to develop a plan to achieve their goals.  This treatment plan may range from teeth whitening, crowns, or veneers, to more complex treatments such as those listed above.

Prostheses

Prostheses may be fixed, removable, or a combination of the two to incorporate natural teeth, dental implants, dentures, implant-retained dentures, or partials.  Whether a fixed or removable option is needed to replace missing or unhealthy teeth, Dr. Redding will create a plan based on the individual's unique needs.

Occlusion

Occlusion is how the lower and upper teeth fit together when the jaw is closed.  If bite alignment is off, problems with the teeth, jaw, and facial muscles can occur if left untreated.  Don't let concerns like this go unaddressed.  Dr. Redding and his team are here to ensure each smile and functionality is at its best.
